DESCRIPTION:Join Bike SD and Families for Safe Streets this Friday to rally for safe streets in San Diego! \nIn 2015\, the City of San Diego pledged to have “Zero Traffic Related Fatalities and Severe Injuries by 2025”. \nIt is now December 2023\, and with a year left to hit this ambitious milestone\, the City of San Diego has actually seen a 27% INCREASE in traffic fatalities since 2015. \nIn 2022 alone\, 122 people were killed at the hands of traffic violence. In the first quarter of this year\, we’ve seen 15 traffic-related deaths in San Diego. In just the last year\, there have been over six hit-and-runs. \nWe are long overdue for change – we must not accept these deaths as a mere byproduct of auto-centric convenience. Other cities have made strides in saving their citizens’ lives – San Diego must do the same.

DESCRIPTION:On December 12\, Queen Bees celebrates its first 15 years with a special celebration showcasing the best of what Queen Bee’s has to offer\, with food\, music and dance in the spotlight! \nFounded in 2008 by Alma Rodriguez\, Queen Bee has become an integral part of San Diego’s arts community\, giving a home to a wide range of activities\, from spoken word to salsa dancing to comedy to the annual San Diego Beatles Fair. As such\, for this celebration\, a full day and night of activities is planned\, with a cocktail lounge and gourmet taco bar amongst the amenities for party goers. \nKicking off at noon with a reception\, at 1:30 p.m. there will be the reading of an official proclamation from the City of San Diego\, acknowledging Queen Bee’s many contributions. Music will be a major focus\, with live performances set for 2 p.m. (rock and pop)\, 4 p.m. (jazz) and 7 p.m. (swing). Free swing dance lessons will be offered at 6 p.m. by acclaimed singer Mercedes Moore. \n“I’m honored to have reached this milestone\,” said Rodriguez. “It hasn’t always been easy\, but I think we’ve built up something special at Queen Bee’s. SUMMARY:Holiday Bridge Light Ceremony – December 14th
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the El Cajon Boulevard Transit Plaza (at SR-15) on Thursday\, December 14th at 5:30PM for the annual lighting of the holiday bridge lights on the 805 and 15 bridges. Santa will be there to celebrate with fellow community members and leaders. \nThe El Cajon Boulevard Business Improvement Association has overseen the Mid-City holiday bridge lighting project for most of its history. The light program\, consisting of nine bridges\, is a joint effort by the Adams Avenue\, El Cajon Boulevard\, North Park and City Heights Business Improvement Associations. Initiated in 1988 by the Adams Avenue Business Association\, the holiday lighting has inspired similar displays in other locations here in San Diego and attracted attention throughout Southern California. \nIn 2018 the El Cajon Boulevard Transit Plaza over the SR15 freeway was added to the program. In 2021 the City Heights Plaza Transit on University Avenue over SR15 was added with funding from the City Heights Business Association. \nThe holiday lighting display has served as a marketing tool for the Mid-City area and for the four business improvement districts and the business communities along Adams Avenue\, El Cajon Boulevard\, and University Avenue. \nCountless inquiries have come to the various community-based organizations as to the origination of the lighting\, providing an opportunity to promote the business aspects and residential living opportunities of this centrally located collection of neighborhoods. Based on CALTRANS traffic counts the lighting display is observed each season by 2 million freeway users and another 1.3 million that traverse the bridges on the surface streets. \nWe would like to thank all our partners who have helped the project over the years\, including the City and County and CalTrans District 11\, who continually work with us to keep power on at the bridges.
