Spring Festival 2003

Seventh Annual North Park Spring Festival is an Awesome Success

Once again the streets of North Park were filled with fun, food, and entertainment.  And this time it was more fantastic than ever before.  The Seventh Annual North Park Spring Festival brought people from all over the county into the historic heart of North Park to enjoy a day of arts, culture, and entertainment.

This Spring Festival featured many new attractions as well as the great things that have been a part of past Spring Festivals.  Returning this year was the Sycuan Dance Stage, the World Music Stage (presented this year by the North Park News), and the San Diego Artistic Community Stage (presented by Update).

A new stage this year was the Theatre & Comedy Stage located at Ohio and University.  This stage was filled with different performance acts ranging from vaudeville to stand up to dramatic scenes.  Also new this year was the Kids Art Beat area.  Children could engage in  a variety of arts activities from drum making to Cheeto constructions.  Kids Art Beat was organized by local art firm Stone Paper Scissors and kids and parents smiling throughout the day.

The entertainment again captivated people, and yet again the Sycuan Dance Stage (organized by Stage 7 School of Dance) captured people all day long.  Once again it presented a wondrous blend of local dance companies that represented many different disciplines from ballet, modern, and salsa to capeoiera, hip hop, and balinese.  The Sycuan Dance Stage continues to be our most phenomenal attraction year after year.

Other stages this year featured unique attractions as well.  The San Diego Artistic Community returned to organize a stage where painters share space with musicians on stage and the World Music Stage had musical groups from cultures all over the world, including Turkish folk music and Balinese Gamelan music.  This year the World Music Stage included the Neolithic Orchestra, a musical ensemble where the members perform using their own invented instruments.

The Seventh Annual Spring Festival was an event that brought people together from all over the county.  And this year showed our dedication to making this event just better and better every year.  We hope to see you there next year, May 15, 2005.
