Holy Matcha Makes Its Debut

Holy Matcha, San Diego’s first café dedicated to the high-end powdered Japanese green tea, is celebrating its grand opening this Saturday, March 11th. Located at 3118 University Avenue (just across the street from URBN and next door to U-31) the vibrant pink space is the perfect Instagram-worthy spot for North Parkers to enjoy the antioxidant-rich tea in various forms. Founder Geraldine Ridaura was inspired to open the café after a trip to Japan in 2014 where she took part in a traditional tea ceremony. After returning home, her desire to bring high quality matcha to San Diego prompted her to start her own business and thus Holy Matcha was born. The menu includes a ceremonial matcha preparation and first-timer friendly matcha lattes. Offerings also include an array of treats infused with the stone-ground green tea, from baked donuts to pound cake. In addition to drinks and pastries, Holy Matcha also serves up light bites like avocado toast plus yogurt and chia bowls with matcha as an ingredient. In line with matcha’s extraordinary healthy benefits, all menu items are vegan, gluten-free and organic. Café hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily starting this Saturday, so stop by soon to get your first peek of the eagerly awaited spot and introduce matcha to your palate.
