North Park Main Street is
partially funded by the City of

Design Committee

The task of the Design Committee is to oversee projects and programs that will enhance the physical appearance of the commercial district along the University Avenue corridor in North Park.

Development Criteria and Design Guidelines for Downtown North Park have been developed by the committee to provide guidance to developers, building owners, merchants, and city staff. Click on the links below to view either document.

In addition North Park Main Street has created with the City of San Diego a Public Right of Way (PROW) Pilot Program.  This program is a tool for merchants to display merchandise outside their stores, use a-frame signs for advertising, and have sidewalk cafes.  For more information about the PROW click here.

A partial list of projects that the Design Committee has been and continues to be shepherding include the following:

The Design Committee also reviews the design of development projects in the neighborhood.

To achieve the goals of the committee its priorities are rehabilitation of historic buildings, the encouragement of well-designed new construction, the development of sensitive design management systems, and long-range planning for the district.

The Design Committee meets every first Tuesday of the month at 5:30 PM at the North Park Main Street Office, 3076 University Avenue, unless otherwise indicated on the agendas posted on the website.

Design Committee members come from a brad spectrum of backgrounds, ranging from architects, planners, builders to business owners, North Park residents, and students from local colleges and universities.

We are always seeking new people that range this spectrum. Because we are volunteer-based and have so many projects pending, the more volunteers we have with expertise, the more we are able to guide the process.
